Preheating and Preparation: The plastic sample to be tested is dried and preheated to a specific temperature to bring it to a molten state. At the same time, the instrument itself must be preheated to the set temperature to ensure consistency in the testing environment.


Application of Load: The molten plastic sample is loaded into the barrel, and a constant load is applied via a piston. Under the combined action of gravity and piston pressure, the plastic melt flows out through a die with a specific diameter and length.


Measurement and Recording: An electronic balance or flowmeter is used to record the weight or volume of the melt that flows out within a specified time. This data directly reflects the flow properties of the plastic material in its molten state.


Calculation and Analysis: The melt index or melt flow rate is calculated based on the measurement data, and the plastic materials flow properties and processability are evaluated accordingly.
