Main differences between Xenon aging chamber and UV aging chamber

There are significant differences between xenon aging test chambers and UV ultraviolet aging test chamber in terms of light source, spectral coverage, applicable standards, test parameters and application scenarios.

1.Light Source and Spectrum

The xenon lamp aging test chamber adopts xenon arc lamp which can provide full-spectrum irradiation of 290 - 800nm, including not only the ultraviolet band but also visible light and infrared rays, and can more realistically simulate the overall energy distribution of natural sunlight. The UV ultraviolet aging test chamber uses fluorescent ultraviolet lamp (such as UVB-313, UVA-340, etc.), and the spectrum is mainly concentrated in the ultraviolet band around 280-315nm or 340nm, only simulating the UV part of sunlight.

2. Corresponding Standards

The Xenon aging test chamber is mainly based on ASTM G155 (xenon lamp accelerated aging standard), which stipulates comprehensive conditions such as spectral irradiance, temperature, humidity and rain and fog cycle, and is applicable to the full-spectrum weather resistance assessment of non-metallic materials. The UV ultraviolet aging test chamber follows ASTMG154 (fluorescent ultraviolet lamp aging standard), focusing on the alternating cycle of ultraviolet radiation, temperature and condensation, and is often used to evaluate the ultraviolet lightfastness of materials.

3. Temperature, Humidity and Circulation Control

Xenon aging test chamber can realize wide range of temperature control (about 0~ 80 ) and high humidity (20% - 95% RH), and support two cooling method: air-cooled or water-cooled, in order to satisfy the demands of long time high temperature and high humidity aging. The temperature range of the UV ultraviolet aging test chamber is relatively narrow (about 50- 75 ℃), and the humidity control is mainly used in the condensation cycle, its structure is more simple.

4. Test strength and aging speed

The irradiation intensity of the xenon aging test chamber is relatively low, aiming to simulate the intensity of natural light. The aging process is closer to the actual outdoor environment and is suitable for materials that require comprehensive assessment of ultraviolet, visible light and thermal effects (such as car exteriors, coatings, plastics). The UV ultraviolet aging test chamber has a relatively high ultraviolet intensity, which can accelerate the yellowing, cracking and other ultraviolet deterioration phenomena of materials in a relatively short time. It is often used for rapid screening and verification of the ultraviolet tolerance of materials.

5. Applicable Industries and Advantages

Xenon aging test chamber: Suitable for industries that require full-spectrum simulation, such as automotive appearance, architectural coatings, aviation composite materials, etc. The advantage lies in its ability to provide a comprehensive aging environment that is closest to natural light, making the assessment results more representative.

UV aging test chamber: Suitable for products sensitive to ultraviolet deterioration, such as plastics, rubber, textiles, optical coatings, etc. The advantages lie in the short testing cycle, simple operation, and the ability to quickly determine the ultraviolet durability of materials.

6. Summary

Xenon aging test chamber provides more realistic outdoor simulation through full-spectrum xenon arc lamp, wide temperature and humidity range and comprehensive aging procedure in accordance with ASTMG155 or and other standards, suitable for in-depth assessment of the overall weather resistance of materials; The UV ultraviolet aging test chamber, with fluorescent ultraviolet lamps as the core and following ASTMG154 or and other standards, focuses on the accelerated deterioration of ultraviolet radiation and is suitable for rapid screening and verification of the ultraviolet light resistance performance of materials. According to actual needs (such as whether full-spectrum simulation is required, budget, test cycle, etc.), choosing the appropriate aging test chamber can more effectively support product research and development and quality control.
